In medieval Europe, pies were a popular dish for both sweet and savory fillings. They were often made with a combination of meat, vegetables, and fruit, and were considered a cheap and easy way to feed a large group of people. Pies were also popular in colonial America, where they were often filled with seafood, game, or poultry.

It is likely that turkey pot pie became popular in the United States after the arrival of the first Thanksgiving feast in 1621. At this time, turkey was one of the main sources of protein in the colonies, and it is believed that the early settlers used it to make savory pies.

The first known recipe for turkey pot pie appeared in a cookbook called “The Frugal Housewife” by Lydia Maria Child, which was published in 1829. This recipe called for leftover roast turkey to be cut into small pieces and mixed with gravy, vegetables, and a pie crust. The mixture was then baked in a pie dish until the crust was golden brown.

Over the years, turkey pot pie has become a popular comfort food in the United States. It is often made with a mixture of leftover roast turkey, vegetables, and a creamy sauce, and is topped with a flaky pastry crust.
